30th Anniversary Celebration & Fund Raiser
The Augusta Food Bank had a 30th Anniversary Dinner and Auction Event this past weekend, and it was an astounding success! We raised just over $11,000! The evening started with a fabulous buffet dinner at The Calumet Club for the 130 people in attendance, and was followed by a silent pie auction with 17 mouthwatering homemade pies. Then came the main event, a live auction with over 120 items! Dick Crosman, a volunteer with the Food Bank who is also an auctioneer, was the emcee for the evening, and he was, by all accounts, GREAT! He kept the evening moving along with the right mix of speed and humor. In addition to the items that attendees could bid on, there was a special appeal for Kids Packs, our popular program that provides extra commodities to families with school age children during the summer and winter vacations. Gay Patterson, the volunteer organizer of Kids Packs, described the program and talked about how the numbers of kids served keeps going up each season. Then Dick asked who would like to sponsor a Kids Packs for $10 (and how many you'd like to sponsor). The hands went flying into the air and when all was said and done, there was an additional $1060 raised specifically for this important program. We were overwhelmed with that outpouring of support! The end of the evening featured a winner of the 50/50 raffle, graciously organized and administered by the Manchester Lions Club. And finally, there were pumpkin & coupon giveaways to the person at the table who had the birthday closest to that date. The Augusta Food Bank was so touched by the generosity of the local businesses who donated, and by the financial support of our neighbors, friends and family, and we send a great big thank you to all! We plan on making this an annual event, so if you missed the fun this year, don't worry, there's always next year!
Thank you to our sponsors!
