How You Can Help.
There are plenty of ways you can get involved! Donations may be made Monday – Thursday from 9am – 3pm. We accept Cash or Checks, Non Perishable Items, Locally Grown Produce and Eggs. Whether it's a Food Drive, Volunteerism or a Donation, we truly appreciate and value your support.
start a Food Drive
Food Drives are the funnest way to donate and we are blessed with an amazing community that supports our Mission. Groups from businesses, churches, schools and more are constantly rallying together to help fight hunger with us. If you're interested in starting a Food Drive for AFB, here's a list of our most needed items:
Mac & Cheese
White or Brown Rice
Canned Fruit & Veggies
While all donations are helpful and appreciated, the most effective way to collect food is to narrow it down to 4 or 5 items on this list so that we can distribute them to the many families we serve.
Take your pick. We use them all.
If you're passionate about giving back in a meaningful way and have a skill set that we can use, give us a call! We are always looking for substitutes to fill in when our regular volunteers need time off. From lifting and organizing to computer knowledge, we have a wide variety of needs.
To inquire about Volunteering with us, call our Volunteer and Program Coordinator, Melissa Shea at 622-5225 x 1. Or send her an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Melissa will provide an application for you to fill out and meet with you in person to talk about opportunities.
Group Volunteer Projects
While we love having groups of employees, scouts, students and more, we don't always have project work available. Our Food Bank is structured with a group of dedicated regular volunteers that work each week. This ensures the function that we require and also means we get a lot of the heavy lifting done on a weekly basis. If your group would like to volunteer with us for a Service Project, we'd be happy to talk to you about our current needs. If we don't have any projects to offer, we will try our best to direct you to another local non profit who may be able to use your help.
We operate Monday - Thursday from 8am - 4pm and do not schedule groups outside
of that time frame.
School Community Service Hours
If your child needs to complete Community Service Hours to graduate High School, we encourage the student to contact us directly. Anyone under 16 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
Court Ordered Volunteerism
We accept Volunteers that need to fulfill Court Ordered Community Service Hours. We have a 3 Strike Policy on missing shifts or calling out last minute. Upon the third missed shift, we will no longer provide volunteer opportunities.
Please Note: For the safety of our Clients and Volunteers, we will not take on anyone with a history of violent crime.
All Volunteers are utilized based on the current needs of the organization. Please inquire.
Donations are always appreciated and they go a long way with us at AFB. With just $1, we have the buying power to fund 4 meals through our partnership with Good Shepherd. Cash or Checks can be donated right onsite or sent to our location at 161 Mount Vernon Avenue, Augusta, ME 04330 . And with just one click below, you can make a donation now!
